The Celis Family
Colombia – Filo alto

The Celis Family
Colombia – High wire
A multidirectional variant on the high wire.
There are numerous circus disciplines that are based on a wire: low wire, slack wire, and inclined wire. The high wire is one of the oldest and most iconic aerial disciplines in the history of traditional Circus. Artists work on a taut steel cable suspended 8 meters above the ring, with no safety net. Unlike other aerial disciplines, everything here is suspended and reliant on fine balance; every step is a negotiation with gravity. The Celis Family is a troupe of five Colombian performers who showcase their high wire act by blending technical skills with the hallmarks of Latin-American live performance: colour, enthusiasm, and musicality. The specialised equipment at the core of their number is unique, allowing them to execute a really multidirectional performance.
Hilary
Portugal – Diabolo
A traditional juggling prop presented in a new way: diabolo on multiple levels.
The diabolo is a traditional piece of circus juggling equipment: shaped like an hourglass, it is deftly tossed around while spinning at speed, propelled by a string attached to two handles which are held by the performer. Portuguese artist Hilary is one of the first women in the world to practice this discipline, which has historically been very male-dominated. Her technique is also innovative, in that she uses more than one diabolo at the same time, using a horizontal and vertical orientation simultaneously. Self-taught, Hilary already boasts a three-year professional career that has seen her perform in the United States, Europe, and Russia.
Weddington Silva
Brazil – Skywalking
A Brazilian Spiderman who intrigues the world with his head-down walking.
Weddington Silva, best known as Super Silva Jr, is a talented circus performer from Fortaleza, Brazil. Since 2009, he has performed all over the world, with the aim of bringing fresh and exciting ideas to traditional circus shows. He is famous for Skywalking, which means walking upside-down whilst high in the air. He is also an expert on the trapeze and other aerial disciplines. Super Silva Jr. has worked on some very famous and prestigious shows, including Cirque du Soleil, Flic Flac, Hungarian National Circus, Extreme Circus, Rock Circus Madrid and Reder Circus. He has also performed on major TV shows in both America and Europe. Through his dangerous and iconic upside-down walk, he shows the world the energy and variety of Brazilian Circus art.
Philippe & Marie-Lee
Canada – Unicycle
Unicycle meets hand-to-hand: artistic innovation that respects tradition.
Philippe Bélanger and Marie-Lee Guilbert are two young Canadian artists who trained in circus disciplines at the École de Cirque de Québec in Canada, where they specialised in tandem unicycle and hand-to-hand balancing. The incredible chemistry evident in the partnership between Philippe and Marie-Lee is the result of over 17 years of shared artistic and professional experience. Slow Cooked is the title of the performance that Philippe & Marie-Lee are presenting in Latina. The confines of traditional circus disciplines are crossed as the two Canadian artists combine the unicycle with hand-to-hand balances: harmony, skill, and mutual trust, alongside strength and precision, are the qualities that form the basis of such a performance. A major highlight in the artistic career of these two Canadian performers is their participation in shows by world-renowned Cirque du Soleil.
Ricardo Flores
Peru – 23rd member of the International Technical Jury
World Circus Festival of Peru, CEO Circus of Ukraine.
Ricardo Flores, a notable Peruvian circus impresario and producer, is the patron of the World Circus Festival of Lima-Peru, the second edition of which took place last August in Lima. The event aimed to consolidate the role of the Peruvian capital as a meeting place for artists, companies, and spectators who share a passion for international circus arts. It was not just a simple show but rather an anthology and showcase designed to celebrate the very best that world circus has brought to the ring in Peru this current year, as was the intent of Ricardo Flores.
